Henry Fayol Theory of Management Essay Example for Free
Henry Fayol Theory of Management Essay DEFINITION OF PUBLIC SPHERE THEORY In rhetoric, the places were citizens exchange ideas, information, attitude and opinions. The concept of Habermas public sphere is a metaphorical term used to describe the virtual space where people can interact through the world wide web, for instance is not actually a web, cyberspace is not a space, and so with the public sphere. Itââ¬â¢s the virtual space where the citizens of a country exchange ideas and discuss issues in order to reach agreement about ââ¬Ëmatters of general interestââ¬â¢(Jurgen, Habermas 1997:105) HISTORY OF JURGEN HABERMAS Jurgen Habermas was born in Dusseldorf, Garmany in 1929, he had served in the Hilter youth and had been sent to them. The western front during the final months of the war.à Habermas entrance onto the intellectual scence began in 1950s with an influential critique of Martin Heideggers philosophy.à He studied philosophy at universities of Gottingen and Bonn, which he followed with studies in philosophy and sociology at the institute of social research under Maz Horkheimer and Theoder Adono. In the 1960s and 70s he target at the university of Heidelberg and Frankfurt am main. He thenà accepted a directorship at the Max Pianck institution in stamberg in 1971. In 1980 he won prize and two years later he took a professorship at the university of Frankfurt, remaining there until his retirement in 1994. Habermas on the public sphere, he means first at al a dominant of our social life in which something coming out in which public opinion can be formed. The right is guaranteed to all citizen. A position of the public sphere comes in being in every conversation in which private individuals assemble to form a public body. Citizens behave as a public body when they confer in an unrestricted fashion â⬠¦ i.e, with the guarantee of freedom of assembly and association and the freedom to express and publish their opinionsâ⬠¦ about matters of general interest. The contemporary publics sphere is characterized according to Habermas. By the weathering of its critical roles and capacities. In the past publicity was used to subject people or the present political decisions to the public. Today the public sphere is recruited for the use of hidden policies by interest groups. For Habermas, the principles of the public sphere are weakening in the 20th century. The public is no longer made out of masses of individuals but of organized people that institutionally exerting their influence on the public sphere and debate. Habermas introduces the concepts of ââ¬Å"communicative powerâ⬠as the key normative resources for countering the norn-free steering media of money and administrative power. Linking â⬠Ëcommunicationââ¬â¢ with ââ¬Ëpowerââ¬â¢ already suggests a mix of the normative resources of communicative action with the impersonal force of power. Is such a conceptual mix stable? As the source for democratic legitimation of the use of state power, communicative power is a central notion in Habermasââ¬â¢s democratic theory. Although, in the medium of in restricted communicationâ⬠¦ new problem situation can be perceived more sensitively, discourses aimed at achieving self-understanding can be conducted more widely and expressively, collective identities and need interpretations can be articulated with fewer compulsions then is the case in procedurally regulated public sphere. HOW HABERMAS ANALYSIS PUBLIC COMMUNICATION Habermas analysis public communication in medieval times there existed no separation or distinction between private and public sphere, dure to the class pyramid of the feudal system. This system for Habermas positioned greater power at every level and to this day conventions regarding the ruler persisted, with political authority retained by the highest level. Rulers saw the state and not as representatives of the state ââ¬â meaning that they represent their power to the people and not for the people. According to Habermas, by the late 18th century feudal institutions were finally disappearing along with churchââ¬â¢s rule, making way to public power which was given autonomy. Rulers become public entities and professionalism bore the first signs of the bourgeois which become autonomous in relation to the government. Representational publicity was pushed over by a public force that formed around national and territorial sentiment and individual struggling with public power found themselves outside its collective power. The term ââ¬Å"publicâ⬠did not refer to the representation of a man with authority, but rather became the legitimate power of exercising power. The public sphere, according to Habermas, was the final stage of these developments. HOW IMPORTANT HARBERMAS THEORY Solutions can be raised and tested for potential objections without the pressure to put ââ¬Ëopinionââ¬â¢ immediately in practice. Uncoupling communicated opinions from concrete practical obligations tends to have an intellectualizing effect. Furthermore, a great deal of political communication that does not immediately call for political action is certainly crucial to the political discourse a robust, democratic society. Free sphere plays an essential role in the political process as a cooperative search for truth. We should not be misled into thinking that the public sphere amounts to nothing more than a public arena in which people talk about politics. Nor does the public sphere have merely instrumental value for bringing ââ¬Ërelevant informationââ¬â¢ into political process. The public sphere is a normativeà concept that plays a key role in the process that culminates in legitimate political decisions. According to Habermas, institutionalized democratic lawmaking and judicial review alone are insufficient to confer democratic legitimacy. Alone with legislative decisions, judicial and administrative decision are only ensured legitimacy through the normative reasons generated by an un-subverted public sphere. Otherwise, political decisions are dedicated by the power struggles within the political system and not by citizens themselves who, as the addresses of the law, are the ones affected. Without robust political public sphere, there is little check on the administrative power that dictates the flow of communication and power within the political system and the citizenry. Thus, the public sphere theory is more inanely an arena for talking politics. It is the primary site for detecting problems, for generating radical democratic infuses, and for the deliberation of citizens, all of which are necessary for democratic legitimacy. In the following, I distinguish the important normative aspects of the informal public sphere theory. 1. Its communicative and organizational structure 2. The capacities required to meet its deliberate role within a deliberative politics and 3. The qualified out comes or effects generated by the public sphere. This last aspect will lead into the discussion of crucial role of communicative power.

New York :: essays research papers
NEW YORK CITY New York is probably one of the most interesting cities in the world. It has something to offer to everybody. If you are looking for culture you make the right choice visiting one of the hundreds great museums in the city. If you want night-life: you are probably right in one of the famous clubs and discotheques of the city. Or if you just want relaxing holidays you better go to one of the famous parks N.Y. has to offer I would recommend you to see Brooklyn Bridge if you are interessetad in great engeneering work. The Brooklyn Bridge is located across from City Hall Park. It is one of the great engineering milestones of the 19th century. Overlooking the East River, this historic crossing divides Manhattan and Brooklyn. Visitors are able to walk across the bridge for an excellent view of lower Manhattan, and there is a path for pedestrians and bicyclists that allows a contrasting view of the two boroughs. When the Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 after 16 years of construction, it linked the two independent cities of New York City to Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Bridge was the first suspension bridge build with steel. N.Y. is also famous for hosting the UNO nations headquarter (like vienna does, too) The buildings and grounds contain sculpture and other works of art donated by member nations. Here, in the Parliament of Man, history is made as representatives of member nations work to resolve international problems. A limited number of free tickets is available on a first-come, first-served basis, for meetings of the General Assembly and Councils, when in session, shortly before meeting times, 10:30am-3:30pm. You can fulfill almost all your needs from high culture to wilderness inside the city limits, but if you are determined to see the surrounding areas, here are a few ideas for day trips out of the city. There are some good beaches near New York and it's possible to get to them for a day trip. Coney Island is the nearest, you can get there on the subway but I wouldn't swim there because the water is pretty dirty as they say. A better bet is to check with the Long Island Railroad and inquire about their special beach packages which are available in June, July, and August.. For instance, you can get a round trip ticket to Long Beach on Long Island and a pass to use the beach for the day for about $12.

A study of Influence in Online Shopping Essay
Research Question: How online shopping influence purchasers buying decision? Research Objective: To investigate how online shopping might influence purchasersââ¬â¢ decision. ___________________________________________________________________________ Online shopping is the procedure of purchasing products and services from vendors over the Internet. In view of the fact of the emergence of the World Wide Web, merchants have wanted to market their products to potential purchasers who occupy their time on online. Purchasers are able to visit website stores from the amenity of their residences as well as shop as they take a seat in front of their electronics via online. Purchasers are able to purchase a massive assortment of products from online stores, plus just about anything are able to be purchased from companies that provide their products or services online. Clothing, reading materials, hardware, household appliances, toys, software, and health insurance are just a number of the thousands of products or services purchasers are able to purchase from an online store. Individuals are getting more contented upon the concept of online shopping. This may perhaps be endorsed to a variety of factors, for example, hectic modern lives, longer working hours, ability to look through products from the amenity of oneââ¬â¢s home, as well as a wide range of alternatives are available.(Quinn,2013) Adding on, online review influences purchaserââ¬â¢s buying decision. From the reviews, purchasers are educated with the quality of the product, the rate of shipping, the efficiency of refundable or exchangeable term, the past customerââ¬â¢s review, the variety of options, the incoming of new product and last but not least, which most people are facing, the special size matter. According to the recent survey carried out by Dimensional Research, an overpowering 90% of respondents stated that buying decisions are influenced by positive online reviews. Despite the fact that, 86 % said negative online reviews influenced buying decisions. (Gesenhues, 2013). ââ¬Å"Customers are firmly in the driving seat in todayââ¬â¢sà rapidly changing retail landscape; with more choice and information at their fingertips than ever before. As retailers, we have to change with them and ensure weââ¬â¢re offering a more personalized, inspirational shopping experience which fits in with their busy lifestylesâ⬠, Laura Wade-Gery, the Executive Director E-Commerce Multi-channel of Marks & Spencer quoted. Furthermore, according to the researcher of marketingcharts.com in the year of 2013, one of the strongest influences that determine the purchasersââ¬â¢ buying decision are deals and discounts. According to the researcher of RetailMeNot.com, a survey carried out by Ipsos, 56% of US respondents stated that promotions on the products they are purchasing influences their judgements or decisions, meanwhile 51% takes in reviews , ratings or opinions of customers who have bought the same product as an influence on their purchase into account. Respondents were asked their preferences to shop online rather than shopping in store for the identical product, 47% of US respondents stated that they prefer to be able to weigh against costs at different retailers effortlessly, and an equivalent percentage stated that it is because they are able access stores that are far from them. However, 16% stated that it is because they find online shopping a rather pleasurable process and experience. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s now very clear: consumers prefer to shop through bits and bytes, with the majority of shopping behaviours and expectations shaped by online sources. To shift shoppers into buyers, retailers need to merge online and physical services to meet the demands of todayââ¬â¢s digital shoppersâ⬠, Dick Cantwell, the Vice President and Global Lead, Retail of Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group quoted. Purchaser personalities that are important in understanding why purchasers online shopping consist of demographic aspects and characteristics. Four related demographic aspects which are age, sex, income and education have a moderating result on the affiliation among the three essential determinants ââ¬Å"usagesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"convenienceâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"pleasurableâ⬠and purchasersââ¬â¢ approach towards online shopping. The inï ¬âuence of age is obvious throughout the detail that compared to elder purchasers, younger adults are more fascinated in using latest technologies, to know new products, explore for product details, and judge and weigh up alternatives. While a large number of purchasers that shops online, the study on what makes purchasers to shop online has naturally been patchy. The review explains that the approach towards online shopping and purpose to shop online are not only influenced by ease of use, usefulness, and enjoyment, as well as by aspects like purchasersââ¬â¢ personality, situational aspects, product quality, online shopping experiences, promotions, and online reviews. Professional and Managerial Ethics Caselet Essay
Limaha Inc. is a world-renowned toilet manufacturer founded in 1967. Limaha led the innovation of advanced bathroom utilities and mainly caters to First Class airports and 5-star hotels. The recent Asian economy boom has led to increased demands of Limaha toilet bowls for the business expansion of their loyal clients. In response, the company has decided call for this unprecedented increase in production that must be met as soon as possible.Jenny Panaguiton, the purchasing manager of Limahaââ¬â¢s main office, was tasked to choose a supplier of premium porcelain to be used in the production of their patented No Pressure toilet bowls. This production will include a big production contract with a new posh hotel in the countryââ¬â¢s capital whose construction is about to end with the installation of their bathroom fixtures. After careful analysis from 20 suppliers by the purchasing department, Jenny was presented and left to decide between two suppliers: O Mang China and Teddy B. Solutions. O Mang China offered superior porcelain at a high price. This price along with other costs necessary to deliver the porcelain to the production plants was estimated to exceed the companyââ¬â¢s budget. Although Limaha can choose to go ahead and allocate more capital for this transaction, it could result to lower company profits if the previously agreed sales price of No Pressure toilet bowls is not increased. If Limaha decides to charge a higher price on their new product, there is a high possibility that the hotel client would back out from the contract and change to another toilet manufacturer for confirmed business ventures next year. Teddy B. Solutions, on the other hand, offered a lower price for the porcelain materials which is well within the companyââ¬â¢s budget. Christopher Barrido, the companyââ¬â¢s Vice President for Production even greatly encouraged Jenny on choosing Teddy B, as the really low price of the porcelain would bring significant favorable variances in their divisionââ¬â¢s costs. Not only would their division have a pretty image in front of the Board, there would even be a possible salary increase. He even promised Jenny of a bright future in the company if she makes the right decision. Jenny, however, doubts their VPââ¬â¢s motives, as Christopher would not normally recommend any supplier and would just leave the Purchasing Department on their decisions. She thinks Christopherââ¬â¢s actions have something to do with the generous gifts Christopher has been receiving recently from his long-time friend and classmate, Teddy B. Teddy Bââ¬â¢s proposal is highly attractive when just considering the companyââ¬â¢s profits. However, the production team who reviewed the samples from Teddy B showed results that were a far cry from O Mangââ¬â¢s porcelain. Materials from Teddy B produced inferior quality toilet bowls. The production team voiced out their concerns through Pie Bread, the production manager. Pie greatly discouraged the use of Teddy B materials to Christopher Barrido, arguing that the use of such materials would greatly affect their quality, and the name of Limaha Inc. could be tarnished through this. They were also very concerned that the hotel might withdraw previous arrangements with Limaha because of the fact that these inferior toilet bowls were simply not appropriate for the posh hotel. Christopher just wonââ¬â¢t have any of Pieââ¬â¢s arguments. He argued that the employees under her department were only exaggerating about the quality of the samples. Teddy B has long been in the business of supplying porcelain, so he argued that the problem is not on the materials, but on the workers handling the production who are not being efficient enough to produce at the expected quality. Pie and Christopherââ¬â¢s debate had been long, and word travelled that Pie was even threatened of demotion if results with the Teddy B samples still would not improve. Needless to say, people from production are now pointing daggers to the purchasing department, as their decisions could cause them their jobs. And so Jenny tried to negotiate the price offer of O Mang China and asked for any other possible alternatives their company could have. Its owner, Osmong, however presented her a very outrageous offer. Osmong is her former lover from a very bad and traumatic relationship.à Osmong, feeling bitter, is still deeply in love with Jenny even after she broke up with him six months ago for a number of undisclosed reasons. Since the breakup, Jenny has vowed to never reconcile with this man again. In a desperate attempt to get Jenny back, Osmong offered to significantly reduce their price to go lower than that of Teddy B, if and only if, she agrees to go back together with him again. This new price would mean that there would be no need for a price increase on the No Pressure toilet bowl, and they could even attract more potential long-term customers because of their high-quality products at a really low price. To add to the list of her worries, Jenny received a note to come to a private meeting in a nearby cafà © with Bea Wing, Limahaââ¬â¢s Internal Auditor. The meeting had been really stressful, as the topic was Teddy Bââ¬â¢s alleged recent romantic interest with Jenny. Teddy has been sending Jenny many gifts and invitations to dinners since the start of the year, and they had gone to a few dates. Jenny, however, just treated their relationship as platonic, and concluded that nothing can come out of their business meetings. Bea however would not believe any of it. Bea had been married to Teddy B for three years. Sadly, a gap in their relationship has formed due to their busy schedules. She noticed her husbandââ¬â¢s special attention to Jenny, and thought that a possible divorce could be coming to her soon if Jenny continues to ââ¬Å"lead him onâ⬠with her business partnerships. Bea thinks that this new materials supplying contract could be the last straw. She later vowed, that if Jenny makes one wrong move on choosing her husband and destroy her marriage, she would definitely destroy her life. Jenny was visibly shaken, given that Bea really has the power to do so, with a few alterations on her departmentââ¬â¢s financial statement, and some words with Board of Directors regarding her process of choosing the material suppliers. Jenny really has a lot riding in this decision. The company profits, the production employees, her personal relationships, her co-workers, and her own job are at stake in this one important decision of choosing the supplier of porcelain for the No Pressure toilet bowl model. She could not afford to lose her job now, given that it is the only way for her to pay for the medical bills of her five dogs in the hospital. This one decision could makeà or break her life. Even more so, sheââ¬â¢s not even sure if it is right. What do you think would be the best action to take?

Agriculture Helped Civilization essays
Agriculture Helped Civilization essays Who wouldve thought that farmers 10,000 or some odd years ago could have helped civilization to what it is today? Farming started in the near east about 10,000 years ago. It began in areas that had an abundance of food so it just came to them. Without it, civilization would not be what it is today. Agriculture led to advances such as, technology, settlement, and government. Agriculture required you stay in one place so this meant people had to stop their nomadic ways. In order to tend their animals and crops people had to settle down. Now they didnt have to cross hot deserts, or climb steep mountains (Cereals). The packs of hunters that had roamed about in search of game now settled in villages (Cities). Imagine what it would be like today if we were still a nomadic people. After people started settling down urbanization started to occur. Most of the early cities started out as farming towns then evolved into bigger metropolises (Cities). With more food being produced than needed the population increased greatly causing the cities to expand (Cereals). Without agriculture people wouldnt have settled in one place and none of these important things wouldve come to be. Important technological advances came out of agriculture. Seeds are planted in rows and a device was needed to make theses rows. The first real device used for this purpose was the digging stick. It was an approximately V-shaped piece of wood with the two sides of the V of unequal length (Cereals). This later led to the development of the plow, which is still used today. One of the main produces of agriculture is a domesticated animal like cattle. The domestication of animals started in the near east where the animals could graze on the already existing cereals (Cities). If this hadnt have been thought of back then, who knows, maybe cows would be running in the streets today? ...

The slang debate - Emphasis
The slang debate The slang debate When actress Emma Thompson warned teenagers against using slang on a recent visit to her former school, she probably didnt expect to spark a debate. But spark one she did. It was, apparently, the likes, innits? and it aints she heard bouncing around the Camden School for Girls, Thompsons alma mater, which drove her insane. She told the students: Dont do it because it makes you sound stupid and youre not stupid. Youre missing the point, the opposing side promptly retorted. The kids are all right. Its the moaning adults attitudes that need to change. Complaints about the standard of English [] have gone on for hundreds of years, points out Raphael Salkie, a professor of language studies at the University of Brighton. There never was a golden age when everyone used English properly. And, while Salkie admits Thompson and her critiquing ilk are in highly esteemed company John Milton, Jonathan Swift and George Orwell to name a few they are merely middle-aged grumps who are wallowing in nostalgia. But they are, he says, pining for a time that never really existed. Yet even taking this into account, another of Thompsons points bears repeating one on the importance of understanding the context in which you speak: There is a necessity to have two languages one you use with your mates and the other that you need in any official capacity. Well, thats a different point entirely, isnt it? Not just slashing a big red line through any and all slang, but knowing when to use a different language. And thats something we all do every day. Its unlikely you use the exact same vocabulary at home as you do in a board meeting, or when out on the town. To many, the word slang might have only negative connotations. But David Crystal, former professor of linguistics at the University of Reading, merely defines it as, informal, non-standard vocabulary, or the jargon of a special group. So slang is not just a way for younguns to separate themselves from their elders; its also a way for them to show unity with their peers. And, of course, it can do this for any age or even any class. Problems could perhaps arise if the speaker couldnt understand the line between social contexts and the vocabularies that should accompany different situations. Interestingly, a study by the Cambridge Assessment Group in 2005 found that GCSE pupils literacy was dramatically higher than it had been ten years before, despite the fact that they used more slang. Students used a wider vocabulary, more accurate punctuation and more complex sentences; but they also used more colloquialisms, text message symbols and non-standard English, like double negatives. This was the case even among those receiving the highest grades. Of course, the perception in the world beyond the classroom is often that using non-standard English is sloppy and a sign of poor literacy. While a teacher may award a high grade in spite of the use of slang and suchlike, it is likely someone using similar language in the workplace would do less well. Potential employers probably wouldnt read beyond the first gr8 in a CV, and the rest of the content however impressive would be lost. Cambridge Assessment Group ran another study on teenagers ability to recognise non-standard English in 2010. It found that although GCSE pupils rates of identifying and correcting non-standard English were quite high, fewer than six in ten of them recognised that off of and she was stood were grammatically incorrect. Perhaps more worryingly, almost three in ten didnt flag up should of. But do we expect this to be something theyll grow out of? Or should we bring back more rigidly taught grammar lessons in school? The great slang debate may never go away perhaps because it is endlessly recycled: yesterdays teens could well be tomorrows curmudgeons. Or, is this in fact more than middle-aged moaning? What do you think?

Causes of the Civil War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Causes of the Civil War - Essay Example Civil wars are common among early nations seeking growth and expansion. Almost all countries in the world has went through civil wars at one some point in their history, where some have experienced it earlier than the others. There was the Irish civil war from 1922-1923, the Lebanese civil war which lasted more than two decades from1975 to 1990, the Russian civil war which began in 1918, the Spanish civil war which happened between 1936-1939, and other countries as well. The American Civil War was a war fought between two organized groups - 23 northern (Union) and 11 southern (Confederate) ââ¬â seeking power within the same country - America. The Confederacy would have been content with gaining control over part of America; the Union insisted upon maintaining authority over all of it. It was also a time when the Confederacy sought to establish itself as a separate nation. The Civil War was the culmination of forty years of intense sectional conflict and reflected deep-seated economic, social, and political differences. Historians have coined a number of titles for the war such as ââ¬Å"War of Southern Independence,â⬠ââ¬Å"Brotherââ¬â¢s War,â⬠ââ¬Å"American Iliadâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Second American Revolution.â⬠Although each of these titles merit the attention to some aspect of the struggle, still, the term Civil War remains to be most appropriate in both sense and usage; and besides, this was the term generally used by both North and South during the war. The American Civil War grew out of deep differences between the north and the south, notably over slavery ââ¬â opposed by President Lincoln, but an important part of the economy of the south. Underscoring sectional differences, the labor force in the South included nearly 4 million enslaved blacks (Readerââ¬â¢s Digest, 1995). An important element in the warââ¬â¢s background was sectionalism, which may be defined as the tendency of one area within the nation to conceive of itself as being significantly different
