My Autobiography Essay - 1155 Words

Autobiography I sit on my desk with vivid memories of my childhood. Its almost as if my visions are projected in front of me, almost as if I can spring into them and reenact my sweet childhood. I remember my day trips out with my family. We were together as a whole then, and I was full to the brim with love. I remember my mum joining me on the gentlerides while my dad videotaped my laughs and my joys. I felt induced to return my love and appreciation to my family. Im always being told that I was an energetic, affectionate young one. I always used to say Hello to people and bare my teeth with a cheesy grin. Everything was as normal as can be, but then in 1995 my parents†¦show more content†¦However, the thought of secondnary school frightened me. I saw my brother go through secondnary school. I remember the day how he got beaten up. I walked in my grans house to see my brother on her bed with blood pouring down his neck. I was around eight years old. Nothing embraced me of what I saw. I was too shocked to realise what had happened. That put me off of secondnary schools immediately. When I finally started secondnary school, Clapton Girls Technology College, I had an endless question in my head which I couldnt manage to anwser, was this the right school for me? Ive had a lot of inconvenient periods in the past and ive had some pleasurable times in Clapton Girls, when I actually would come home to my mum and say Mum, today was a brilliant day. But mostly my time in this school was disgraceful. The significant occurrence in Clapton Girls has to be the most stressful part of my life I remember I had my first phone call from a man, with a deep degrading voice, claiming to be a teacher in my school. He stated all the humiliating acts he was going to perform on me. I kept picturing, imagining, this man, who he declared he was, actually accomplishing his vile fantasies. Vaccinations and Children - 1531 Words

There is much debate and controversy about child vaccinations being safe or not. Parents wonder should they get their children vaccinated and take the risk of their child having a side effect. While some experts say that vaccinations are safe, others say that vaccinations are deadly. Approximately 100 years ago children received 1 vaccine, smallpox. About 40 years ago children received 5 vaccines, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, smallpox and polio. Today a child receives 52 vaccines, 15 of these shots are by the age of 16 months (http://tuberose.com). By the time another 100 years go by it is possible that our children will receive double the amount of vaccinations of today which would put children receiving about†¦show more content†¦There is approximately 1,000 infants die each year as a direct result of the DTP vaccine. Approximately 35,000 acute neurological reactions occur within 48 hours of the shot. (www.tuberose.com). Doctors, FDA, and CDC are all telling us the vaccines are safe, but are they really. I visited a site called the Tragedy of Vaccinations and in this site it had pictures and a list of names of children who had a severe reaction to vaccinations, first on the list was a boy name Chris- Christopher died 21 hours after receiving his first DPT and OPV vaccination at two months of age. Second, Ashley- 72 hours after receiving her 4th DPT and OPV and HIB, she was hospitalized with encephalitis and kidney failure, she is severely mentally and physically handicapped. Third Richell- 10 hours after her 3rd DPT and OPV she suffered a grand mal seizure, she is now mentally and physically hand icapped (www.yourlifesource.com) and the list went on. These are only a few of the thousands of children who suffer from mental and physical handicaps and who have died from these so called routine vaccinations. I would guarantee you that the parents of these children would argue that vaccinations are not safe by any means. This is a comparative study that examines the impact of local bargaining power on both the flexibility of labour as well as the security policies with regards to employment. the aim of this study is to examine the impact of the structural power of workers on the overall tradeoffs. The qualitative study is conducted in four multinational subsidiaries spread across Germany Belgium and Britain. Bargaining power provides workers with sensitive and strong means of negotiating improved terms of employment with employers. From this it follows that the very base of trade union negotiations commence from the collective bargaining power of workers. very structure of trade unions is dependent on the differences in the structural power of workers working in different countries. The attitudes of people and their needs tend to vary from country to country and this is reflected in the negotiations between employers and employee groups including trade unions. The easiest manner to put across the power of collective bargaining would be to compare the bargaining power of a single worker to that of an organized group called trade union. The bargaining power of trade unions increases exponentially with an increase in density and based on the profitability of the firm. Interestingly in case of larger unions the negotiations are done with a group of companies as opposed to a single company. In such a case the trade union is able to negotiate a similar deal for all workers across the various companies. Their collective bargaining power is also higher. Furthermore, the power of trade unions is intensified due to their political leanings and the political support extended to them by various parties. The union funds provide for a provision of funds for workers to go on a long term strike in case their needs are not met by the employers.The major limitation of this study was lack of secondary information. In case of industries that are highly dependent on labour for its functioning, it can even result in lockouts and heavy losses for the company. Most companies try to avoid such dire situations and try to negotiate for a lower settlement that what is asked for by the trade unions. If the trade unions are strong, then they are able to ensure that theirtermsare met unconditionally. Alternatively, they agree for a mid way settlement.The circumstances mentioned above however, only hold true for cases where collective bargaining power is in the hands of workers and there remains a low rate of unemployment, making the availability of workers dear. The improvements in technology in Germany has resulted in the need for fewer employees in many industries which have shifted to being technology centric, in a bid to increase outputs while doingaway with the vulgarizes associated with manual labour and trade unions. This move, particularly in Germany and its multi-national subsidiaries across Belgiumand Britain has resulted ina significant erosion of bargaining power for trade unions, creating the current situation of lower workers in industries. This has been amply compensated by the absorption of these employees in various subsidiaries and alternative units and thus trade unions are able to negotiate a tradeoff through a structural shift in power of workers. They have determined that the exploitation of strength in numbers is actually declining and the impact the economic growth of the country is staggering. While there are several studies that speak of a tradeoff between worker structure across subsidiaries and the collective bargaining power of workers who continue to enjoy employment in the company or its subsidiaries at any given point of time. The aim of this article was to compare collective power of workers in Britain with workers in Germany. When comparing the collective power of workers in Britain with that of workers in Germany, it came to light, that the British workers enjoyed a higher negotiating power when compared with the Germans. The loss of bargaining power among the Germans has been attributed to various factors including the loss of employment. The implications of the rise in bargaining power of workersis found to be directly proportional to the income distribution, employments levels, realwage s and output in all monopolistic organizations. This is indirect contrast to the diminishing marginal productivity of labour which states that as duration of labour increases, the productivity decreases marginally. It has been observed lately, that workers no longer feel motivated to relive unions. They are rather looking at a reaching ac compromise and letting matters slide rather than stand up and mobilize together for the protection of their rights. Often, it is noticed that management has taken the initiative to establish a work council as a positive and proactive step towards achieving a protection for its workers. Such work councils, tends to be skewed towards the interests of the management. The post-war growth of trade union movement was unprecedented during the early post war period, which coincided with the growth of the industrial revolution in most of Europe. The trade movement frizzled off significantly during the last decade due to the various socio-economic and geo-politicalchanges happening across the world during the period. Work councils and trade unions were seen as a buffer for most workers. However, this ideology has witnessed a massive change during the past decade and may be attributed to the rise in governmental measures initiated towards public health care and social welfare activities though most of the developed and developing countries. (6). the limitation o this study is lack of secondary information. Unlike other countries across Europe, the revival of the trade union movement was not met with much cheer across Germany, primarily due to the significant drop in the number of workers employed in most factories. German workers have not faced unemployment, per se. Instead they have been redistributed across different verticals and in many instances, been placed in multinational subsidiaries. This has resulted in a significant outflow of union workers leading to a drop in union memberships and culminating in the loss of their collective bargaining power. (8). Yet another change observed on the labour front has been the drop in the number of German workers who have been replaced by cheaper immigrant workers; who are not ready to risk their income in favour of union membership and collective bargaining. Thus, it would be appropriated to conclude that these factors in tandem have resulted in a significant loss of collective bargaining power of German workers across all industries. While the very strength of trade unions has been dependent on the low rate of unemployment as well as high worker density approaching 100 per cent; the last decade saw a significant drop due to the rapid strides in technology, making several jobs redundant. Workers were faced with the challenge of building new skills sets as wellas meeting competition from immigrant workers who were willing to work at lower wages. This resulted inerosion in job security and translated into a drop in workers as wellas trade union memberships. The right to collective bargaining has been granted recognition from all levels, including international human rights which recognized trade unions as a fundamental human right. Collective bargaining has been given the nomenclature of being an essential right of workers and this right has global approval. However, it has been unfortunate that while collective bargaining has been recognized as an activity that enhances human dignity and grants workers the autonomy to influence rules in their place of work, it is not properly exploited in the present day. The advantages of trade unions include a mark up in wages amounting to a value between 5 to 10 per cent in developed countries, besides bringing about equalization in income distribution between unskilled and skilled workers. The German advantage has been on the job problem solving along with flexible working that has contributed to Germanys changing focus from worker groups to individual workers. It has also been observed that work place transitions have also contributed to the decline in collective bargaining. The popularity of this model is felt among top management as well, who are able to exert considerable influence over the councils in sharp contrast to the trade unions which were rigid and immovable unless their demands were met. The various bargaining models include distributive bargaining, cooperative bargaining, productivebargaining,and compositebargaining and so on. The commonly observed bargaining model in negotiations involving strong trade unions has been distributive bargaining. They are used to attempt in settling economic matters including wages, bonus, and monetary benefits and so on. This type of bargaining does not involve any offer-counter offer or negotiations. Both parties have a rigid view of what they want and attempt to achieve their objective without considering the opposing party. A highly popular type of bargaining, this model was keenly followed during the peak of the trade union movement. Interestingly, the bargaining mindset that is popular today is a more flexible version called the cooperative bargaining model. Underthis model bothpartiesare willing to negotiate and reach a common ground of agreement as was observed during the recent economic crisis of 2010. While trade unions took a relaxed stand on wage cuts, employers also kept workers on board rather than firing them, thus ensuring a win-win situation for all concerned parties. While many are of the opinion that the decline in union power contributed to the decline in collective bargaining, the root cause lies elsewhere. The factors that contributed to the current state of affairs can be traced back to the high level of machination that was seen in Germany as part of the industrial revolution. With the reducing dependence on human labour, the need to maintain and pamper the workforce was significantly reduced. This coincided with the easy availability of immigrant labour which was not only cheaper, but also less probable of creating unions for its empowerment. This scenario was the prima factor reason for the decline in trade union memberships as well as the union power that was witnessed across Europe during the post war era. Conclusion While the collective bargaining power of workers has undergone a significant shift in Germany, the primary factor that needs consideration is the change in attitude of German workers. These workers now show a marked preference for adopting a softer approach in place of the rigidity associated with collective bargaining seen during the peak of the trade union movement in Europe. The focus has now shifted towards a more symbiotic approach to bargaining rather than an insistence on a more rigid stand. While there are many who argue in favour of this change, particularly in view of the fluid worker movement across borders due to the changes in international laws; several of the advantages that workers enjoyed as partof their rigid stand is lost. Their practice questions cover different concepts or are presented in a different format than those on the SAT Writing test. Many test prep books or websites have practice questions that are either much harder or much easier than the questions on the SAT Writing section. Make sure you know where to find the best SAT Writing practice tests. For those of you looking for additional content review and explanation, I advise looking at our posts on the best SAT prep books and websites. Also, I may be biased, but I highly recommend the PrepScholar program. PrepScholar practice questions are designed to be realistic and are based on questions from official SATs. If you're stronger in Reading and Writing or applying to a humanities program, your Reading and Writing target scores can be about 50 points higher than your Math target score. If you excel in math or you're applying to an engineering program, your Math target score can be about 50 points higher than your Reading and Writing targets. Professional and Managerial Ethics Caselet Essay

Limaha Inc. is a world-renowned toilet manufacturer founded in 1967. Limaha led the innovation of advanced bathroom utilities and mainly caters to First Class airports and 5-star hotels. The recent Asian economy boom has led to increased demands of Limaha toilet bowls for the business expansion of their loyal clients. In response, the company has decided call for this unprecedented increase in production that must be met as soon as possible. Jenny Panaguiton, the purchasing manager of Limaha’s main office, was tasked to choose a supplier of premium porcelain to be used in the production of their patented No Pressure toilet bowls. This production will include a big production contract with a new posh hotel in the country’s capital whose construction is about to end with the installation of their bathroom fixtures. After careful analysis from 20 suppliers by the purchasing department, Jenny was presented and left to decide between two suppliers: O Mang China and Teddy B. Solutions. O Mang China offered superior porcelain at a high price. This price along with other costs necessary to deliver the porcelain to the production plants was estimated to exceed the company’s budget. Although Limaha can choose to go ahead and allocate more capital for this transaction, it could result to lower company profits if the previously agreed sales price of No Pressure toilet bowls is not increased. If Limaha decides to charge a higher price on their new product, there is a high possibility that the hotel client would back out from the contract and change to another toilet manufacturer for confirmed business ventures next year. Teddy B. Solutions, on the other hand, offered a lower price for the porcelain materials which is well within the company’s budget. Christopher Barrido, the company’s Vice President for Production even greatly encouraged Jenny on choosing Teddy B, as the really low price of the porcelain would bring significant favorable variances in their division’s costs. Not only would their division have a pretty image in front of the Board, there would even be a possible salary increase. He even promised Jenny of a bright future in the company if she makes the right decision. Jenny, however, doubts their VP’s motives, as Christopher would not normally recommend any supplier and would just leave the Purchasing Department on their decisions. She thinks Christopher’s actions have something to do with the generous gifts Christopher has been receiving recently from his long-time friend and classmate, Teddy B. Teddy B’s proposal is highly attractive when just considering the company’s profits. However, the production team who reviewed the samples from Teddy B showed results that were a far cry from O Mang’s porcelain. Materials from Teddy B produced inferior quality toilet bowls. The production team voiced out their concerns through Pie Bread, the production manager. Pie greatly discouraged the use of Teddy B materials to Christopher Barrido, arguing that the use of such materials would greatly affect their quality, and the name of Limaha Inc. could be tarnished through this. They were also very concerned that the hotel might withdraw previous arrangements with Limaha because of the fact that these inferior toilet bowls were simply not appropriate for the posh hotel. Christopher just won’t have any of Pie’s arguments. He argued that the employees under her department were only exaggerating about the quality of the samples. Teddy B has long been in the business of supplying porcelain, so he argued that the problem is not on the materials, but on the workers handling the production who are not being efficient enough to produce at the expected quality. Pie and Christopher’s debate had been long, and word travelled that Pie was even threatened of demotion if results with the Teddy B samples still would not improve. Needless to say, people from production are now pointing daggers to the purchasing department, as their decisions could cause them their jobs. And so Jenny tried to negotiate the price offer of O Mang China and asked for any other possible alternatives their company could have. Its owner, Osmong, however presented her a very outrageous offer. Osmong is her former lover from a very bad and traumatic relationship.  Osmong, feeling bitter, is still deeply in love with Jenny even after she broke up with him six months ago for a number of undisclosed reasons. Since the breakup, Jenny has vowed to never reconcile with this man again. In a desperate attempt to get Jenny back, Osmong offered to significantly reduce their price to go lower than that of Teddy B, if and only if, she agrees to go back together with him again. This new price would mean that there would be no need for a price increase on the No Pressure toilet bowl, and they could even attract more potential long-term customers because of their high-quality products at a really low price. To add to the list of her worries, Jenny received a note to come to a private meeting in a nearby cafà © with Bea Wing, Limaha’s Internal Auditor. The meeting had been really stressful, as the topic was Teddy B’s alleged recent romantic interest with Jenny. Teddy has been sending Jenny many gifts and invitations to dinners since the start of the year, and they had gone to a few dates. Jenny, however, just treated their relationship as platonic, and concluded that nothing can come out of their business meetings. Bea however would not believe any of it. Bea had been married to Teddy B for three years. Sadly, a gap in their relationship has formed due to their busy schedules. She noticed her husband’s special attention to Jenny, and thought that a possible divorce could be coming to her soon if Jenny continues to â€Å"lead him on† with her business partnerships. Bea thinks that this new materials supplying contract could be the last straw. She later vowed, that if Jenny makes one wrong move on choosing her husband and destroy her marriage, she would definitely destroy her life. Jenny was visibly shaken, given that Bea really has the power to do so, with a few alterations on her department’s financial statement, and some words with Board of Directors regarding her process of choosing the material suppliers. Jenny really has a lot riding in this decision. The company profits, the production employees, her personal relationships, her co-workers, and her own job are at stake in this one important decision of choosing the supplier of porcelain for the No Pressure toilet bowl model. She could not afford to lose her job now, given that it is the only way for her to pay for the medical bills of her five dogs in the hospital. This one decision could make  or break her life. Farming started in the near east about 10,000 years ago. It began in areas that had an abundance of food so it just came to them. Without it, civilization would not be what it is today. Agriculture led to advances such as, technology, settlement, and government. Agriculture required you stay in one place so this meant people had to stop their nomadic ways. In order to tend their animals and crops people had to settle down. Now they didnt have to cross hot deserts, or climb steep mountains (Cereals). The packs of hunters that had roamed about in search of game now settled in villages (Cities). Imagine what it would be like today if we were still a nomadic people. After people started settling down urbanization started to occur. Most of the early cities started out as farming towns then evolved into bigger metropolises (Cities). With more food being produced than needed the population increased greatly causing the cities to expand (Cereals). Without agriculture people wouldnt have settled in one place and none of these important things wouldve come to be. Important technological advances came out of agriculture. Seeds are planted in rows and a device was needed to make theses rows. The first real device used for this purpose was the digging stick. It was an approximately V-shaped piece of wood with the two sides of the V of unequal length (Cereals). This later led to the development of the plow, which is still used today. One of the main produces of agriculture is a domesticated animal like cattle. The domestication of animals started in the near east where the animals could graze on the already existing cereals (Cities). If this hadnt have been thought of back then, who knows, maybe cows would be running in the streets today? ...

The slang debate The slang debate When actress Emma Thompson warned teenagers against using slang on a recent visit to her former school, she probably didnt expect to spark a debate. But spark one she did. It was, apparently, the likes, innits? and it aints she heard bouncing around the Camden School for Girls, Thompsons alma mater, which drove her insane. She told the students: Dont do it because it makes you sound stupid and youre not stupid. Youre missing the point, the opposing side promptly retorted. The kids are all right. Its the moaning adults attitudes that need to change. Complaints about the standard of English [] have gone on for hundreds of years, points out Raphael Salkie, a professor of language studies at the University of Brighton. There never was a golden age when everyone used English properly. And, while Salkie admits Thompson and her critiquing ilk are in highly esteemed company John Milton, Jonathan Swift and George Orwell to name a few they are merely middle-aged grumps who are wallowing in nostalgia. But they are, he says, pining for a time that never really existed. Yet even taking this into account, another of Thompsons points bears repeating one on the importance of understanding the context in which you speak: There is a necessity to have two languages one you use with your mates and the other that you need in any official capacity. Well, thats a different point entirely, isnt it? Not just slashing a big red line through any and all slang, but knowing when to use a different language. And thats something we all do every day. Its unlikely you use the exact same vocabulary at home as you do in a board meeting, or when out on the town. To many, the word slang might have only negative connotations. But David Crystal, former professor of linguistics at the University of Reading, merely defines it as, informal, non-standard vocabulary, or the jargon of a special group. So slang is not just a way for younguns to separate themselves from their elders; its also a way for them to show unity with their peers. And, of course, it can do this for any age or even any class. Problems could perhaps arise if the speaker couldnt understand the line between social contexts and the vocabularies that should accompany different situations. Interestingly, a study by the Cambridge Assessment Group in 2005 found that GCSE pupils literacy was dramatically higher than it had been ten years before, despite the fact that they used more slang. Students used a wider vocabulary, more accurate punctuation and more complex sentences; but they also used more colloquialisms, text message symbols and non-standard English, like double negatives. This was the case even among those receiving the highest grades. Of course, the perception in the world beyond the classroom is often that using non-standard English is sloppy and a sign of poor literacy. While a teacher may award a high grade in spite of the use of slang and suchlike, it is likely someone using similar language in the workplace would do less well. Potential employers probably wouldnt read beyond the first gr8 in a CV, and the rest of the content however impressive would be lost. Cambridge Assessment Group ran another study on teenagers ability to recognise non-standard English in 2010. It found that although GCSE pupils rates of identifying and correcting non-standard English were quite high, fewer than six in ten of them recognised that off of and she was stood were grammatically incorrect. Perhaps more worryingly, almost three in ten didnt flag up should of. But do we expect this to be something theyll grow out of? Or should we bring back more rigidly taught grammar lessons in school? The great slang debate may never go away perhaps because it is endlessly recycled: yesterdays teens could well be tomorrows curmudgeons. Or, is this in fact more than middle-aged moaning? Analysis of Child Feeding and Care Practices in Certain Area INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING AND CARE PRACTICES OF CAREGIVERS IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBAY, PHILIPPINES Joyce Louise Cruz Ignacio, RND Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian Summary of the present status of the study Description of the status of the research work The study has two basic objectives: 1) To assess the caregivers’ current Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and care practices; and 2) To assess the nutritional status of the 0-24 month-old children in the province of Albay. As stated in the proposal, the study is composed of two phases. phase executed the process to meet the first objective of the study, whereas the second phase involved a carefully-designed capacity-building program for the community health and nutrition workers. The survey component of Phase 1 was conducted in the province of Albay from March 2014 to June 2014. It covered six of Albay’s municipalities Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, Oas, Libon, Malilipot, and Tiwi and three of its component cities Legazpi, Ligao and Tabaco – altogether creating a scope of 24 different barangays. 280 caregivers, all of whom were randomly selected via systematic sampling, participated in a two-day survey that used a pretested questionnaire to obtain the household and caregivers’ socio-economic and demographic information. That information included age, educational attainment, occupation, household income, household size and their hygiene and sanitation practices. Also recorded about infants and young children were their participation in health and nutrition programs, their access to health and medical services (e.g. immunization, deworming, micronutrient supplementation), their two non-consecutive 24-hour food recalls, the frequency and duration of their breastfeeding sessions, and their anthropometric measurements that were taken using a calibrated salter weighing scale and head board. Furthermore, six (6) Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), three for disaster-prone areas and three for non-disaster-prone areas in Albay, were conducted using a structured set of questions as a guide. Topics included in the FGDs were generally focused on the IYCF and care practices and their coping mechanisms during emergencies. Phase 1 of the study, now in its final component, is undergoing analysis of the following variables: socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the households and caregivers, hygiene and sanitation practices, participation in health and nutrition programs, access to health services, and dietary intake of children. It also evaluated their relationship with each other, and their impact on both existing IYCF and care practices and the nutritional status of 0-24 month-old children in the community. Respondents who either failed to complete the two-day data collection or have incomplete data and/or answers to the questionnaires administered will be excluded from the analysis of the study. The results of Phase 1 will serve as the empirical basis for the planning and implementation of Phase 2. Phase 2, the capacity-building component of the project, will render substantial inputs for the local government of Albay. This will not only aid in their development of appropriate programs, b ut also, through the advocacy of proper IYCF and care practices of caregivers, facilitate interventions on malnutrition in young children. The National Nutrition Council in the Bicol region (NNC-Bicol) and the local government of Albay have expressed great support and enthusiasm in the study. During the development of the study, they provided substantial insights and suggestions, all of which were incorporated in the final design of the study. They also helped in the planning and implementation of the data collection in the field. They directed me in the proper channels which made the facilitation of the data collection more effective and efficient. NNC-Bicol and the local government of Albay are continuously providing all the necessary assistance that will help in better understanding and analyzing gathered data. They have also been very committed all throughout the project and worked closely with me during the capacity building phase of my study. As originally proposed, the capacity building component of this study will supplement the existing guidelines and recommendations of the local government in Albay. Based on the initial communication with the regional and provincial nutrition office, there were several training sessions for the community health and nutrition workers, all of which focused on IYCF. However, there is a high turnover rate of community health and nutrition workers which can be attributed to several factors: 1) Community health and nutrition workers serve as volunteers so they spend a lot of their time with the community; 2) They have no salaries since the source of funds is unsustainable, and the idea of it destroys the spirit of volunteerism; and 3) Community health and nutrition workers, though mandated by law to be non-partisan, tend to be affiliated to specific political parties, which is why their posts may be filled by other volunteers when there are changes in political leadership in the community. Yet despite their selflessness in service, they are often taken for granted and underappreciated which lead them to leave their posts. High turnover rates of community health and nutrition workers often lead to the disruption of the co-worker’s relationships with the community and each other. When these workers leave their posts, the opportunity to build on their experience and further develop their skills through refresher training is lost. Due to these circumstances, the recommended course of action is to have a consultative meeting with the key persons in Albay in order to address the problem in sustaining said workers. However, realigning the concept and purpose of community health and nutrition workers is necessary before conducting any form of training. A strategic and concrete plan of action is also needed to answer questions hindering the sustainability of community health and nutrition workers. These may include about the most efficient way to monitor these workers, how turnover rates can successfully be reduced, and what incentive system should be used to ensure that community health and nutrition workers are properly motivated. Furthermore, training and retraining are recommended for the health and nutrition workers of the barangays covered in Phase 1. Continuous training has been known to be an essential prerequisite in effective community health and nutrition work, and is an important factor in retaining the motivation of workers. This latter part is crucial, especially in light of the short training periods available and the low levels of education of most workers. Retraining allows them to learn and develop new skills, take on new challenges, and interact with peers, keeping the job interesting as well as promoting personal development. Upon completion of Phase 1, strengths and weaknesses of the current IYCF will be identified, and incorporating findings of the study in the capacity building component can further strengthen the technical capacity of health and nutrition workers in the community. Firsthand knowledge and experience on the field will make them more equipped in planning, service delivery, and monitoring of existing IYCF programs.
